Pat Hansen

1999 AIGA Seattle Fellow

Pat Hansen has over thirty years of experience with brand development and application to both print and online media. She specializes in bringing clarity to complex information, and her keen sensibilities with typography and color lead to elegant solutions. Her ability to balance smart logic-based thinking with fresh creativity brings value to every project.

She is responsible for award-winning projects designed for Microsoft, Westin Hotels, The Boeing Company and Retail Management Solutions. Her work has been honored with hundreds of awards, exhibited on national and international levels and has been honored by a variety of both business and design-related organizations.

Her dedication to the design profession is reflected in Pat’s active role as founding President of the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). In addition, she was a founding member of the Seattle Design Association, and has taught graphic design at the University of Washington and Syracuse University. She is a frequent guest lecturer and juror for design shows around the globe.

Pat served for four years on the AIGA National Board of Directors, in addition to a term as Vice President of the Executive Committee. For two years, Pat was a member of the Strathmore Paper Company Design Advisory Council. She was honored with Media Inc.’s Person of the Year Award in Graphic Design, was featured in PRINT Magazine, and was selected by Graphic Design USA Magazine as one of the top 10 Women Designers in the United States. In 2009, Pat was elected as an AIGA Fellow and in 2010, was awarded the Legacy Award from the Seattle Design and Advertising community. Recently, Pat was invited to judge an International Poster Show in Taiwan and to lecture in two cities on branding and successful design firm management.

Pat graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design and attended the Kunst Gewerbeshule in Basel, Switzerland.

 

About the AIGA Seattle Fellow Award

The AIGA Fellow program is a means of recognizing seasoned designers who have made a significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within our design community as well as in our AIGA chapter. The nominee must:

  • Be a practitioner and/or educator with more than fifteen years experience in the profession.
  • Be a member in good standing.
  • Have made a significant contribution to AIGA.
  • Have made a positive impact within their local or regional design community.
  • Have advanced excellence in graphic design as a discipline, profession, and cultural force.
